Worm composting is the use of worms to transform compostable material like fruit, veggies, and paper products into compost. It is very similar to thermophilic composting (regular composting) with the exception that worms do the breaking down of the organic material instead of heat. Worm composting is generally a faster process than thermophilic composting, but obviously depends on other factors like the number of worms in your system.
